Tirlán donates €20,000 to UNICEF
Tirlán and its family farm suppliers have donated €20,000 to UNICEF. The funds will help assist the charity to provide emergency support to millions of people devastated by earthquakes across south eastern Turkey and along the Syrian border.
UNICEF teams are working on the ground in the most impacted areas to provide humanitarian help such as emergency food, clean water and hygiene kits to desperate families.
Tirlán Chairman John Murphy said it is only fitting that a farmer-owned co-operative that is committed to giving back to all of its communities would support UNICEF and its work as part of the Turkey-Syria response.
“This was the most powerful earthquake to hit this already vulnerable region in almost 100 years. It couldn’t have come at a worse possible time for children and families. Entire communities have been devastated and left struggling to survive in freezing conditions.
“Tirlán and our family farm suppliers have a long tradition of providing quality food and nutrition and looking after the most vulnerable in our communities, in keeping with our Living Proof sustainability strategy.
“We are proud to support UNICEF once again. We are all deeply impacted by what has unfolded and are privileged to help play our part in getting emergency food, water and other essential supplies to families who are desperately in need,” Mr Murphy said.
It’s the latest response from Tirlán to UNICEF’s plea for support. In 2022, Tirlán donated €20,000 to UNICEF Ireland’s ‘Get a Vaccine, Give a Vaccine’ campaign. It was rolled out world-wide, focusing on vaccinating populations in least developed countries which were most exposed to COVID-19 and desperately in need.
Just last year, Tirlán also made a €30,000 contribution to UNICEF’s work on the ground in Ukraine and employees and farmer suppliers directly raised a further €15,000 for their humanitarian work.
